Remote Pro Bono Project(s) Needed for University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Law Student(s)

UMKC law students are eager to assist lawyers at nonprofit organizations and law firms who can provide remote pro bono opportunities

Posted April 30, 2020

Background & Context

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, students at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law are seeking opportunities to use their growing legal skills to aid their communities. We are seeking lawyers who can provide meaningful remote pro bono volunteer opportunities for these students.

Our hope is to alleviate the burden on legal services and pro bono providers during this time, to increase access to justice, and to allow students to utilize their newly developing legal skills to assist impacted individuals and communities.

Work & Deliverables

Students must be able to complete projects remotely and must work under the direct supervision of a licensed attorney. Projects must involve substantive legal work. Projects may vary in length, as students have different capacities to work on projects. Students may want projects that are as short as a couple of hours or as long as the whole summer.

Thank you for your support of our law students, and of our community, during this critical time.

University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law Pro Bono/Public Service Program

As an urban serving institution, the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law provides students with rich and varied opportunities to service the public interest and to aid underserved members of our community. The Pro Bono Program allows students the benefits of hands-on legal training, the opportunity to develop relationships with lawyers and legal organizations in the community, exposure to various areas of the law, and the satisfaction of making a difference in people's lives. As a law school, we strive to create an environment that instills a sense of civic responsibility in its students and demonstrates a commitment to public service and meeting the needs of those of limited means in the community. Students are asked to perform legal activities only under the direct supervision of an attorney.
