Racial Justice Task Force

Support organizations defending protesters, advocating for policing/prison reform, and advancing equity

Posted June 1, 2020

Immediate Problem

As the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery have again cast a spotlight on the life-or-death consequences of the systemic racism and injustice pervading our society, countless lawyers have taken to social media to offer their help. We The Action seeks to channel this support to organizations who fight for justice every day, including especially community-based and Black-led organizations who know where volunteer lawyers can have the greatest impact for their communities.

Work & Deliverables

We The Action partners with many leading national civil rights organizations and community-based nonprofits fighting unjust and abusive policies and practices that target or disproportionately affect communities of color. We are reaching out to these partners and to additional organizations we hope to support through our volunteer lawyer network. We will share opportunities for meaningful volunteer contributions with the task force as our partners bring them to us, over the days, weeks, and months ahead.

After joining this task force, you will be given the opportunity to join one or more groups based on your skills and interests, in order to connect with more specific parts of this broader fight. These groups will evolve based on feedback from our partners, but may include:
• Protest Support
• Criminal Defense
• Supporting People Abused by Police
• Reforming Policing
• Ending Mass Incarceration
• Socioeconomic/Educational Equity
• Voting Rights
