Pennsylvania Canvass Monitor
Ensure that eligible voters' ballots are counted!
Posted October 5, 2026
Background & Context
The official canvass or computation is the process by which the appropriate authority checks the election results from each precinct for accuracy. The county board compiles all of the ballots from each voting method (e.g. standard in-person, standard mail-in, provisional, etc.) to compute the results for each race on the ballot. In Pennsylvania, the official canvass is conducted by County Boards of Elections.
Work & Deliverables
Canvass monitors help:
-- Monitor and respond to election threats, such as mass challenges, attempts to halt the canvassing process, and attempts to disqualify whole categories of ballots
-- Document and report the tactics of individuals or groups who try to:
-- Disrupt, interfere with, or stop the computation and canvass process
-- Mobilize advocates for rapid response when issues arise
-- Provide advocates with a better understanding of individual County Election Board’s processes
