Ohio Lawyer Engagement Election Protection

Use your legal skills on the front lines to protect Ohio's democracy!

Posted September 28, 2026

Background & Context

This election season, we are facing novel legal and safety threats that will require novel legal solutions. As our legal system goes through one of the biggest stress-tests in our nation's history, we need experts and practitioners to stand up for democracy at every single opportunity.

Immediate Problem

The LEEP program will provide an avenue to match up legal professionals with the individuals and organizations fighting on the front lines to protect Ohio's democracy.

Work & Deliverables

If you would like to put your legal education and experience to good use this election season, we would love to find the right opportunity for you.

Role opportunities depend on the needs we identify in the field and could include:

-- Regional Leads: Serve as local conduit for Ohio’s LEEP network, which includes assisting the legal rovers on the ground, alerting and strategizing with the state command center when an issue requires escalation.

-- Legal Rovers: Attend a training, then volunteer for 1 or more shifts to be on-call for dispatch to polling locations, boards of elections, courthouses, or other local sites to observe, confirm facts on the ground, seek documentation, or otherwise troubleshoot legal issues related to election protection.

-- LEEP Organizer: Participate in planning calls, strategy sessions, and take on miscellaneous tasks and projects.

-- Litigator: Those with relevant backgrounds and licensure will be tagged in when the litigation teams need your assistance.’

Ohioans Against Extremism

Launched by longtime Ohio organizers in August 2024 in response to the rapid normalization of extremism in Ohio, Ohioans Against Extremism holds the line against hate. We work to motivate every Ohioan — regardless of party or zip code — to be better to each other. But we will never sacrifice justice for politeness. And we will never trade our neighbors’ civil rights or safety for the sake of “political compromise”. As a 501(c)4 nonpartisan nonprofit, we are allowed to take sides on issues that matter to us, and we do. We aren’t neutral, and don’t pretend to be. But we are truly nonpartisan. We strengthen communication among organizations, train leaders in different communities, activate disengaged voters, and promote common-sense values across Ohio. We galvanize Ohioans across the political spectrum, focus on our shared values and goals, and connect voters with tangible anti-extremism actions that will make a difference in their communities. Whether it’s helping Ohioans tell their own stories, providing educational materials to grassroots groups, or creating and consolidating reliable resources, Ohioans Against Extremism helps Ohioans become their own best advocates.
