Voting Rights Legal Roving Monitor, Louisiana Election Protection

Respond to voting rights issues at polling places.

Posted September 25, 2026

Background & Context

Louisiana Election Protection's (LA EP) Legal Roving Monitor (LRM) program meets one essential voting-rights need in Louisiana. We must ensure dedicated legal response capacity to respond quickly to urgent voting-rights and election issues.

Immediate Problem

Legal volunteers in Election Protection field programs are essential when and where rapid response is required. However, these needs are variable, and most volunteers spend portions of their shifts on call. There is a huge opportunity to utilize that time to assess the accessibility of Louisiana's polling places.

Work & Deliverables

Volunteers will be assigned turf in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport, LA. Gas cards are available!

Volunteers must have smartphones and access to a private vehicle to travel around their assigned county.

During shifts, volunteers will monitor polling locations within their assigned turf for voting access issues. Volunteers may be dispatched to polling locations at the request of the Louisiana Election Protection (LA EP) Command Center.

Should an issue occur in their city that requires legal support or rapid response, the LA Election Protection Command Center will dispatch the volunteer to respond under the guidance of the LA EP legal experts.
