Alliance for Safe Traffic Stops

VA Prison Society

Create legislation that allows official prison visitors the right to visit with inmates in all prisons in the state of Virginia. We are mirroring our program after the PA Prison Society.

Posted November 20, 2020

Background & Context

When I was lived in PA, my husband and I were Official Prison Visitors through the PA Prison Society (www.prisonsociety.org). As visitors, we were afforded the permission to visit any inmate in any prison in the state of PA to determine if their basic human needs were being met, medical conditions, visiting on behalf of family members. The program was so successful that I vowed to create the same program in VA. With Senator Adam Ebbin and Commonwealth Attorney Brian Porter, we are introducing this legislation to the legislature in January 2021.

Immediate Problem

The VA Prison Society will serve as a liaison between inmates, prison staff, and families.

Work & Deliverables

Provide consultation to create the VA Prison Society under the umbrella as a program with the Alliance for Safe Traffic Stops (ASTS). We also want to place an additional program under the ASTS called the Northern Virginia Community Alliance (NVCA) - a program that bridges the gap between the community and law enforcement in Fairfax City, VA.
