Serve as an Election Protection Hotline Captain (REMOTE)
Support Election Protection volunteers assisting voters and documenting problems at polls.
Posted May 1, 2026
Background & Context
The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law seeks legal volunteers to serve as captains for the non-partisan Election Protection national voter hotline (1-866-Our-Vote). The hotline aids voters experiencing problems and guides them throughout the voting process. All volunteering is done remotely.
Work & Deliverables
Captains are the backbone of the hotline, serving as an important resource for the volunteers who are helping voters. They are highly trained volunteers who have completed extensive volunteer shifts and shown comfort and familiarity with hotline resources and procedures. Captains assist and coach volunteers so they can successfully help voters. As the first point of contact for volunteers, captains play a significant role in shaping the volunteer experience during the shift. Captains also serve as the eyes and ears of the hotline, reporting trends and major issues to hotline staff.
Requirements: All captains must complete the 2026 captain training and 1–3 volunteer shifts (depending on prior experience) before their first captain shift. The minimum time commitment for captains is 18–25 hours between now and November 3, 2026.
Hotline volunteer opportunities fill quickly, so act now to reserve your spot! Serving as a hotline captain can also help ensure you secure shifts throughout election season, including Election Day.
