Background & Context
Join We The Action for a conversation with Professor Spencer Overton from the George Washington University Law School and Professor Jonathan Diaz from Georgetown University Law Center to discuss the recent Supreme Court decision on the voting rights case, Louisiana v. Callais.
Work & Deliverables
Louisiana v. Callais was argued before the Supreme Court on October 15, 2025, and centered on the constitutionality of Louisiana’s congressional map and the fate of protections under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. On April 29th, the Supreme Court struck down Louisiana’s congressional map and effectively eliminated the remaining enforcement mechanism of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The Supreme Court’s decision will increase the legal barriers facing voters challenging racially discriminatory maps and voting laws.
The decision in Callais has far-reaching implications and can open a floodgate of discriminatory congressional maps. Join us to learn more about this seminal case, what to expect next, and what lawyers can do to protect voting rights.
