We The Action
Pro Bono Work as a Service to Democracy (Webinar)
Tuesday, September 17 at 3pm ET / 12pm PT (virtual)
Posted September 4, 2024
Background & Context
This program is the fourth virtual program of our Voter Vanguard Democracy program series.
The program will inform attorneys about the work of our nonprofit partners, how they can volunteer, potential challenges and areas of focus in the final months leading up to Election Day, and how they can begin making a plan now to meet nonprofit needs nationally and in specific states in November and beyond.
Immediate Problem
Nonprofits are preparing for election day and they need volunteer lawyers. The program will highlight the needs of WTA nonprofit partners as we prepare for Election Day and how WTA lawyers are vital to nonprofit efforts. Protecting the right to vote, encouraging civic engagement amongst those eligible to vote, and upholding our constitutional rights are a few core ways pro bono attorneys act as the legal backbone in the pursuit of justice.
Work & Deliverables
The program will cover nonpartisan election protection volunteer opportunities and nonprofit needs as they prepare for Election Day.
Speakers:
Lindsay Langholz, Senior Director of Policy and Program for American Constitution Society
April England-Albright, National Legal Director of Black Voters Matter
Flose LaPierre, Election Programs Manager for Common Cause - Florida
Marliza Marin, Election Protection Manager for Common Cause - Texas
Scott Seeborg, Co-Director of States for All Voting is Local
