Comprehensive Review of State specific Voter Registration Laws
We are looking to register millions of new voters through volunteer action with a free, nationwide map of who is not registered.
Posted June 3, 2019
MapTheVote at https://mapthe.vote is a free, (nearly) nationwide map of unregistered households that does not reveal any PII, but enables volunteers to canvass their own neighborhoods and help their neighbors get registered to vote. For states without Online Voter Registration, we mail the required VR forms directly to voters with a postage paid return envelope addressed to their county. Each envelope also has a unique barcode so we can track who completes it.
We need to identify whether certain states have laws that would prevent either helping volunteers go door to door to do Voter Registration or paying for postage on return mail. Then we need to come up with solutions for those states that get us close enough.
We registered 133,545 people last year in Texas, a notoriously difficult state to conduct voter registration in, with all volunteers over just 8 weeks. We believe we can register millions more when we get this going in high gear for the next 1.5 years.
