Arizona Democracy Resource Center
Election Protection AZ Legal Working Group
Help prepare on the ground organizations to respond to elections threats & subversion.
Posted September 22, 2022
Background & Context
This work could include writing and editing legal declarations for on-the-ground volunteers to use when interacting with disenfranchised voters, representing an organization in a lawsuit against the state or a county, and more.
Immediate Problem
Arizona has been flagged as the state with the highest likelihood of elections related violence in the country, and candidates perpetuating the "big lie" that elections are rigged, are polling well. We are deeply concerned that there will be threats of violence during the voting period, and that multiple winners and losers will declare election fraud and take action in whatever power they can to overturn the results. We need to be prepared for all of these possibilities and you can help us do that.
Work & Deliverables
Join the local legal working group meetings, Wednesdays at 2 pm Arizona Time, to discuss our best legal options in response to voter suppression during the General Election voting period, and to election threats and subversion during the election canvass and certification process.
Preparation Phase
- Meet with one of the current working group members
Collaboration Phase
- Join weekly meetings as needed
- Work on deliverables set by the group
Wrap Up
- Give feedback on the efficacy of the group
- Track as needed
