Trans Empowerment Project

Help a domestic violence survivor get her license back

We hope to help this client get her license back quickly with as little hassle (and fines) as possible.

Posted December 29, 2020

Background & Context

This client lost her license in 2004 and shortly after got married. This was a 15-year-long abusive marriage and her husband was controlling to the point that he would not allow her to get her license back. That marriage ended when she walked out in 2019 and has been working hard since then to get back on her feet. She recently received an offer for the best job she's ever had but will need to have her license back before she starts in late February.

Immediate Problem

Helping this client will allow her to move past the trauma and abuse she suffered and step into a new chapter, in a new state, with a new job.

Work & Deliverables

We need someone to find out how she can get her license back without having to travel back to NC during a pandemic or pay an attorney thousands of dollars that she doesn't have at this point. This client is stuck in the catch-22 of not being able to afford a lawyer to help with this, but needs her license back to be able to accept this wonderful job opportunity.

Trans Empowerment Project

Trans Empowerment Project's mission is to "elevate trans and gender non-conforming communities out of crisis and into empowerment in order to advocate for our own liberation and autonomy". The organization was started in Dec. of 2016 to help address the needs of trans and gender non-conforming community members in Knoxville, TN. However, within a year of launch, the organization expanded it's outreach to meet the needs of community members outside of TN. In 2018, we provided over 520 emergency resources for trans and gender non-conforming individuals nationwide.
