Common Cause Texas

Digital Democracy Advocacy in Texas

We defend our information ecosystems from election lies before they suppress voter confidence.

Posted September 30, 2024

Background & Context

Common Cause has been tracking and countering election disinformation narratives since 2016. Rampant disinformation puts voters’ rights at risk, and viewers who expect their news channels and social media to tell the truth are left misinformed. Unchecked election lies continue to harm our democracy.

Social media platforms and broadcasters profit off of the spread of disinformation. These media platforms and providers lobby our congress people to avoid accountability for the harm caused by the lies they platform. It is up to the people and regulatory agencies to hold Big Tech and Media accountable for protecting information access!
