Helping to get debts back for SSAAP-Zambia project
Debts to project in Zambia repaid or work completed
Posted May 22, 2024
Background & Context
SSAAP-Zambia has been drilling water wells since 2012 in remote villages. We hired a contractor in 2020 for 12 water wells, and he did the job competently and effectively, so in 2021 we gave him another contract for water wells, a water reticulation system (simple irrigation system) and to build the headquarters for our project. In 2023, we hired him to build a security wall around the headquarters. To-date, only 2 of the 6 water wells are complete from the 2021 contract.
Immediate Problem
We need all the debts back to our SSAAP-Zambia project: 4 water wells, finished water reticulation system (tap system), finished SSAAP headquarters, finished security wall around SSAAP headquarters, as soon as possible.
Work & Deliverables
I need a lawyer to help me navigate the legal system in Zambia or represent our nonprofit organisation in Zambia, as our project aims to serve the most remote, poverty-stricken villages in Southern Province Zambia; we hired a contractor in 2021 to drill 6 water wells, which he has not completed to-date (only 2 of the 6 were completed), build a security wall around our compound, which he has not done, plus a water reticulation system. We need these debts to be given back to our project so that the beneficiaries (rural poor) can access clean water.
Preparation Phase
- Have a general idea of the problem at hand
Collaboration Phase
- Working together to review contracts, signed documents, and receipts
Wrap Up
- Debt returned to project

Simwatachela Sustainable Agricultural and Arts Program [SSAAP]
We are a grassroots organisation working to help rural Africa (Zambia and Sierra Leone) with clean drinking water via water wells. We also work with food sustainability and nutrition through simple irrigation systems (Water Reticulation Systems) so that people can grow food year-round. We are a small organisation, committed to serving the needs of the local people through basic human needs: water and food! SSAAP is also working in partnership with George Washington University Law School, with their Pro Bono Program (https://www.law.gwu.edu/pro-bono-program). Any attorney who wishes to work with SSAAP on any of its projects may also work with a GW Law student who would do much of the legwork, research, and work for the project, though supervised by a bar-certified attorney.
