Review Ballot Petition for Naperville, IL
Support citizen-led efforts to improve local elections with ranked choice voting.
Posted December 12, 2023
Background & Context
Evanston, IL passed a referendum in November 2022 to implement ranked choice voting (RCV) in their municipal elections. Since then, community members in several other Illinois municipalities have taken concrete steps towards having a referendum for using RCV in their municipal elections.
Immediate Problem
Naperville differs from Evanston in two ways: (1) it has multi-member elections for city council, so the tabulation process is less straightforward, and (2) the city council will not agree to put it on the ballot, so the local advocates are going the route of a ballot initiative.
Work & Deliverables
Review ballot question language and petition form for compliance with Illinois election law.
Preparation Phase
- Intro call with policy lead, statewide organizer, and/or executive director
Collaboration Phase

- Communicate with national RCV legal roundtable if needed
