Help i.c.stars Apply for Federal Relief Loans & Bill Deferment

I.c.stars is an onramp to careers in technology, bringing economic mobility to low income adults. With COVID disproportionately hitting the poorest communities, i.c.stars has a proven model to help.

Posted April 24, 2020

Background & Context

i.c.stars bridges two groups - employers with tech jobs to fill - with underrepresented and underserved adults who need opportunity. For four months, participants are immersed in project work, responding to an RFP from an employer partner along with coding, leadership training and career readiness. Following the four month bootcamp, support continues for 20-months: as mentorship for newly employed graduates, placement assistance, education counseling, ongoing professional development, case management and other services. Because we rely on corporate funding and events for a significant portion of our funding, COVID has severely impacted revenue to our organization.

Immediate Problem

The global pandemic and the economic destruction it is causing create major challenges that threaten these programs.

Work & Deliverables

We have questions about PPP loan forgiveness conditions. We also have questions about deferring rent or other bills due to COVID.

i.c.stars

i.c.stars was established to create economic opportunity for underserved communities by bridging disconnected young adults with the high growth tech sector. Participants learn by doing; they build web based applications to solve client challenges - with coding, business, and leadership instruction provided along the way. They also gain the professional network needed to jumpstart their careers. We've been in Chicago since 1999, in Milwaukee since 2018, and have additional markets in our plans.
