COVID-19: Advise DonatePPE on Fiscal Sponsorship or Nonprofit Formation

Unlock funds to help DonatePPE get critical personal protective equipment to healthcare workers fighting COVID-19

Posted April 6, 2020

DonatePPE’s mission is to ensure that healthcare professionals in the United States have access to the adequate protection they need to fight against COVID19. We accomplish this mission in three ways:

1. Direct donor to hospital connection through our nationwide hospital database. Community donation drives through medical school students and other organizations.

2. Accepting donations from large corporations to distribute in hard-hit areas such as New York, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and New Orleans.

3. Using monetary donations to purchase PPE directly from suppliers in China and shipping those supplies to the US.

We would like a lawyer to help us assess our options for structuring our operations and accepting donations to support them, including fiscal sponsorship or incorporating as an independent nonprofit organization. We would also like for our volunteer attorney to assist us with setting up the option we choose to move forward.

Donate PPE

Donate PPE was formed in March 2020 in emergency response to the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers facing COVID-19. Founder Deyu Kong, an engineer from the Bay Area, partnered with Dr. Karen Tsai from Los Angeles to organize a team of over 30 volunteers whose mission is to connect communities with spare protective gear like masks, gloves, gowns, sanitizer, and more to hospitals that need them most. Donate PPE’s hospital database makes it easy for hospitals and healthcare workers to enter the exact protective equipment they need. Donors can search the database by location to deliver equipment efficiently. In less than two weeks DonatePPE has connected over 100,000 PPE articles with healthcare workers across the United States. Donate PPE is partnering with corporate donors like Ford Motor Company, Flexport, Citizens of Humanity, and Cenports to source and distribute supplies of PPE across hard-hit areas such as New York, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and the Bay Area.
