Privacy policy and terms of use for the website for ClimateVoice

Help us launch the website for a new organization that will push companies to speak up in favor of useful climate policy

Posted February 6, 2020

We need legal help writing a privacy policy and terms of use for our website for our launch on Feb 22, 2020. (Soft launch at the ClimateCAP Summit on Feb 22; formal public launch on Feb 24.)

Our mission is to empower employees and students to push companies to go "all in" on climate - where "all in" means in every aspect of their business, especially including their use of the influence in the public policy sphere.

We will be asking people to take an overarching pledge, where they pledge to use their voice to push companies to go all in on climate. We will then be asking people to sign a series of petitions, each focused on a particular public policy (legislative, regulatory, ballot measure, or court case) where we want companies to speak up in favor the policy to drive faster climate action (or against regressive policies). We will also be seeking media attention on the growing movement of young people who want their employers to be "all in" on climate - and who believe that continued silence by supposedly climate-friendly companies is not neutrality, but complicity with the status quo.

We will be collecting personal information from those who sign the pledge and petitions, including: name, email address, school (if a student), employer (if employed), location, field of study or work, expected year of graduation, highest degree achieved, age, and possibly other information.

We will not disclose a person's personal information without their explicit permission. We will be reporting aggregate information about the number of pledges and the number of signatories on each petition, possibly broken down by school, employer, field of study/work, etc.

We will be using service providers for web analytics, and also possibly to collect and store information about users (e.g., an online survey service to collect the personal information, rather than building all the functionality from scratch ourselves). We will require service providers to maintain the same level of confidentiality that we promise.

We are mobilizing the voices of thousands of students and employees to push companies to speak up as advocates for climate policies in the jurisdictions where they operate.
