Background & Context

Join Acacia Center for Justice, TheDream.US, and We The Action for a virtual session exploring how attorneys can support immigrants nationwide through pro bono service and meaningful advocacy. This session is suited for volunteers seeking to start on immigration projects and experienced immigration attorneys who conduct this work. If you’re new to We The Action, welcome! Enter your email and click “Join” to sign up for this webinar. For our returning community members, click “Volunteer for this Project.” The Zoom link to join this program will then be sent to your inbox.

We look forward to hosting you on April 30th at 1PM ET.

Work & Deliverables

Moderator: Victoria Gomez, Director of Nonprofit Partnerships

Panelists:

Grace Kurland Mann
Grace Kurland Mann is an Attorney and Program Manager at the Acacia Center for Justice, working in partnership with the National Immigrant Legal Response Alliance (NILRA). Grace coordinates legal services and response efforts for individuals navigating complex immigration proceedings.

Susan Collins
Susan Collins serves as Chief of Staff and leads Government Affairs at TheDream.US. In her role, Susan drives efforts to expand college and career pathways for undocumented students while advancing policies that support immigrant communities nationwide.

Featured Volunteer Opportunities:

Acacia Center for Justice (NILRA) – Detained Asylum Seeker
Acacia is seeking a volunteer for an upcoming May 20 hearing of an asylum seeker detained in Texas. Volunteers will support his asylum case and may assist in pursuing release from detention.

TheDream.US – Dreamer Defense
The Dream.US is seeking volunteers to support college-educated Dreamers at risk of detention or deportation. Attorneys will represent Dreamers and defend them from detention and removal when they are swept up in indiscriminate immigration enforcement that threatens their futures.

TheDream.US – DACA Renewal Assistance
The Dream.US helps low-income Dreamers in successfully renewing their DACA status. Volunteers will screen for eligibility, assist with Form I-821D, and provide follow-up guidance. Law students and paralegals are welcome under the supervision of an attorney.
