Voter Registration Training for Tucson Unified School District on 10/16

WWAV will work with TUSD to register every eligible student to vote

Posted October 11, 2019

When We All Vote (WWAV) is partnering with the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) to host professional development trainings to guide schools in the steps it takes to build a successful voter registration program. Trainings are focused on supporting teachers and students in adopting voter registration programs in their school. As part of these trainings, WWAV will provide state-specific voter registration guides, step-by-step guidance on establishing a program, as well as best practices and other materials to use in schools and classrooms. We're looking for a volunteer lawyer to help! As part of the TUSD training scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, the volunteer will serve as a speaker and provide a brief overview of applicable voter registration laws.

When We All Vote

When We All Vote is a national nonpartisan organization working to close the race and age gaps in voting and voter registration. We are partnering with school districts across the country to host professional development trainings to guide schools in the steps it takes to build a successful voter registration program. Trainings are focused on supporting teachers AND students in adopting programs in their school. At each training we work with the district to be sure there is a Teacher Voter Registration Captain and Student Voter Registration Captain present. With them, we share and explain state-specific vr guidelines, best practices, lesson plans for the classroom, how to have conversations prior to registration and how to build a voter registration action plan. Our goals are to change the culture around voting, build foundations for long-term voter registration programming, and increase civic engagement and participation of young people by having this become a peer-led, district-wide effort that occurs throughout the school year, year after year.
