Help Improve Elections: Poll Worker Research Project

Make An Impact

Posted September 10, 2019

Poll workers play a critical role in our elections. Yet, many problems experienced by voters at the polls can be traced back to poll worker errors which can be the result of inadequate training, poor planning by administrators and many other factors. In an effort to better understand how local election officials recruit poll-place workers, how they train them and how they ensure polling places are adequately staffed, we are submitting public records request to over sixty counties in five states: Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Arizona and Pennsylvania. We are seeking assistance with outreach to election officials who are failing to comply with the public records request in a timely manner. This often can be as simple as making a phone call. We are also seeking assistance with the actual analysis of the information that election officials produce in response to the records requests. This work can be done from anywhere and you do not have to be a member of the bar in any of the states we are looking at.
