Communities United for Status & Protection (CUSP)

TPS Protection Defense

Protect the millions of TPS holders in this country from losing status.

Posted May 31, 2025

Background & Context

Communities United for Status & Protection (CUSP) is a national collaborative of grassroots immigrant community organizations working together to win permanent status for our members and communities, and build a more inclusive immigrant rights movement that centers the needs and experiences of African, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latinx, Arab/Middle Eastern, and Asian & Pacific Islander immigrants. CUSP includes the following organizations: Adhikaar for Human Rights & Social Justice, African Communities Together (ACT), Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA), the National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC), and the UndocuBlack Network (UBN).

Immediate Problem

In the coming months, over 600,000+ holders of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) are at risk of losing their livelihoods and immediate deportation because of an aggressive anti-immigration agenda led by the current administration. With TPS designations set to expire for eight countries in 2025 (South Sudan, Afghanistan, Cameroon, Nepal, Haiti, Syria, Ethiopia & DED for Palestine), CUSP is seeking the pro bono support of a law firm to develop litigation that challenges the unlawful termination(s) of TPS. TPS expires for the countries above as follows:

Afghanistan - May 20, 2025
Cameroon - June 7, 2025
Nepal - June 24, 2025
Haiti - August 3, 2025
Palestine (DED) - August 13, 2025
Syria - September 30, 2025
South Sudan - Expiration Date: Nov 3, 2025
Ethiopia - Expiration Date: December 12, 2025

Work & Deliverables

CUSP is seeking the pro bono support of a law firm to develop litigation that challenges the unlawful termination(s) of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghanistan, Cameroon, and Nepal. Syria and Ethiopia may potentially be amended if necessary.
