Donor Privacy Policy

Join us in protecting donor data and ensuring compliance with privacy laws

Posted October 1, 2024

Background & Context

Our nonprofit, headquartered in California with sites in both CA and WA, is experiencing rapid growth in donor engagement across the U.S. With a broad and expanding donor base, we recognize the urgent need to protect sensitive donor information and remain compliant with increasingly complex data privacy laws. While nonprofits are often exempt from some commercial privacy laws, donors expect transparency and security around how their data is collected, stored, and shared.

Immediate Problem

Our immediate need is to develop a comprehensive and compliant Donor Privacy Policy that will be posted on our website and used across our fundraising platforms. The policy will ensure donor trust, mitigate legal risks, and demonstrate our commitment to ethical data handling practices. Your expertise will help ensure we meet these obligations and safeguard donor relationships.

Work & Deliverables

We are seeking support with researching and drafting a comprehensive Donor Privacy Policy that ensures compliance with data protection regulations, including California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other relevant state and federal laws. The key deliverables include:

- Conducting a legal analysis of privacy regulations for nonprofits operating in multiple states (focusing on CA and WA).
- Drafting a legally sound Donor Privacy Policy, including guidelines for data collection, usage, sharing, and security measures.
- Advising on best practices for posting and communicating the policy across digital fundraising platforms.
- Reviewing current policies and making recommendations for updates or improvements.

Juma Ventures

Juma strives to break the cycle of poverty by paving the way to work, education, and financial capability for youth across America. Our vision is that all young people have the opportunity to succeed, advance and thrive in the career of their choice, competing in a job market that is inclusive, equitable, and diverse. Our YouthConnect program focuses on low-income transition-aged youth (ages 16-24), who are at risk of disconnection from school and work. Referred to as Opportunity Youth, many of these young people grew up in poverty, have a history with foster care or juvenile justice, and have experienced significant trauma. As a result, they face a multitude of barriers to employment. We make sure they EARN a paycheck, LEARN to manage their money and gain essential skills like responsibility, teamwork and how to communicate in the workplace. Ultimately, we CONNECT them to their next job and set them on a path to a career.
