Election Protection AZ is made up of trusted local organizations that work with communities across Arizona to support, protect, and advance the right to vote. This is an in-person volunteer opportunity in Arizona. We do not have remote opportunities available.

We need eyes and ears on the ground at voting sites across Arizona to sound the alarm when there are issues, and to help voters on the spot!

Right now, we are looking for volunteers who are available to serve as poll monitors for the November 5 general election. Poll monitors assist in creating a welcoming environment for voters & report any situation that may limit voting to the Command Center. We’ll give you all the training and materials you’ll need to make a difference!

NOTE: If you live outside of Arizona, we welcome your participation but EPAZ cannot assist with travel and accommodations.

Your Role as A Poll Monitor:
Create a welcoming environment
Complete your polling place checklist
Assist Voters:
75 feet away from the polling place
Be non-partisan
Do not show support or dissent for any candidate or party
Ensure voters know their rights
Answer voters’ questions
Assist voters by checking:
Registration status
Polling place information
Absentee/Mail-In Ballot status
Identify & Address Problems:
Report systemic and bigger issues to the command center
Fix problems in real time
Collect data from all voter conversations
Help ‘vibe check’
If you feel uncomfortable, remove yourself from the situation and contact the Command Center
Reasons You Would Report an Issue:
Voting Site Issues
Unclear signs
Physical barriers, no disability access
Not enough parking
Long lines
Sites opening late or closing early
Voter Check-In Issues
Broken machines
Poll workers giving wrong info
Voters not in the database
Other incidents
Voters turned away without being offered a provisional ballot or ballot tracking information
Campaigners crossing the partisan buffer zone (75 feet)
Language inaccessibility
Dis/Misinformation (e.g. sharpiegate, ballot harvesting)
Intimidation, Voter Challenges, or Police Presence

Attend the training
Take the post-training quiz
Sign up for a shift (shifts will be available by 10/4/2024 as we are waiting for AZ counties to finalize their polling place locations)
