K 18 year old immigrant youth facing deportation

Help an immigrant child gain legal status in the U.S. and protect them from deportation.

Work & Deliverables

K.R. is an18-year-old juvenile from Guatemala. K.R.’s father passed away in 2007. K.R.’s mother lives in Guatemala but she is unable to take care of K.R. or meet her basic needs. K.R. came to the United States alone in March 2022. K.R. currently lives in Queens with her older brother, who is also her proposed guardian. K.R. 's attorney will need to help her to petition the U.S. government for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), a gateway to permanent residence in the United States.

Safe Passage Project is a highly-focused nonprofit immigration legal services organization. We provide free lawyers to refugee and immigrant children in the NYC-area who face deportation back to life-threatening situations, despite their strong legal claim to stay in the US.
