Afghan Evacuee Virtual Screening Clinic June 24, 2022 (1p - 4p CT)

Screening Afghan evacuees for all forms of immigration relief.

Posted June 6, 2022

Background & Context

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston resettled over one thousand evacuees from Afghanistan since August 2021. These families entered the U.S. with a temporary "parole status" which is not a path to permanent residence or citizenship. We are screening each family for any immigration remedies they may qualify for. These families will then be represented by pro bono attorneys and Cabrini Center attorneys in obtaining the immigration relief identified.

Attorneys can sign up for additional volunteer work but this project is a discreate and time bound opportunity, not full scale representation.

Work & Deliverables

Join the Cabrini Center as we celebrate World Refugee Day by engaging in a day of action to help our recently arrived neighbors!

The Cabrini Center is seeking volunteer attorneys to help people who have had to leave their homes in Afghanistan by speaking with and screening them for possible immigration relief. Join us (virtually) at 1p CT for a thirty minute training, then we'll pair volunteer attorneys with translators and clients to complete the screening process over the next three hours. No immigration experience necessary but attorneys do need to have access to zoom and a reliable internet connection.

Training will be provided and client contact can be completed remotely.
