Represent Immigrant Child or Family in Colorado

Help immigrant child obtain legal status and protection from deportation.

Posted April 20, 2021

Background & Context

RMIAN is a nonprofit organization that serves low-income men, women, and children in immigration proceedings. Through our pro bono programs, we connect volunteer attorneys with individuals in need of representation. Each volunteer attorney is connected with an individual mentor who is available to discuss the case, review filings, and provide support. RMIAN also provides access to our library of training materials, including recorded webinars, sample filings and briefs, and representation guides. Interpretation and translation services are provided. No prior immigration experience is required and malpractice coverage is offered. Please note, some matters can be completed remotely, and other matters require Colorado bar admission and ability to appear in court in Colorado.

Work & Deliverables

RMIAN seeks volunteer attorneys to help immigrant children and families pursue legal status in the United States through:
1) Representation in Colorado state court to obtain state court predicate order required to apply for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS).
2) Represent child to assist child to apply for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and Adjustment of Status in order to become a lawful permanent resident in the U.S., and in some cases, fight deportation
3) Represent children and families seeking asylum in the United States
4) Represent children and families seeking "U-Visas" for victims of certain crimes who have been helpful to law enforcement investigation
5) Represent individuals seeking protection under the Violence Against Women Act
6) Represent children and families seeking "T-Visas" for victims of severe human trafficking
