Seek and Sight Literacy IP protection

Empowering neurodiverse learners with personalized tools that build literacy and confidence.

Posted October 9, 2025

Background & Context

As a social worker and nonprofit leader, I’ve spent over 27 years witnessing the struggles children with learning disabilities face in underfunded schools. Too many fall behind in reading because traditional teaching methods don’t meet their needs.

Seek and Sight was born out of that urgency — a literacy platform designed specifically for neurodiverse learners using adaptive technology, multisensory engagement, and STEAM-based games. Our goal is simple yet powerful: make sure every child, regardless of ability, can learn to read with confidence.

By protecting our intellectual property now, we can safeguard this innovation and scale it to reach families, schools, and therapy centers nationwide. Volunteers who join us will help ensure that this life-changing solution is protected and positioned to make the widest impact possible.

Immediate Problem

We urgently need to protect Seek and Sight’s intellectual property — including our brand, curriculum, and adaptive technology — to prevent misuse and ensure our innovation is safeguarded as we scale. With pilot partners already engaged and multiple grant applications in progress, securing IP protections is critical to strengthening partnerships and unlocking funding opportunities.

Work & Deliverables

1. Copyright

Register copyrights for your curriculum content, game scripts, written materials, and multimedia assets (graphics, animations, videos, etc.).

Deliverable: Filed copyright applications and confirmation/receipts from the U.S. Copyright Office.

2. Trademark

Conduct a trademark search to ensure your name/logo (“Seek and Sight”) is not already in use.

File for trademark protection for your brand name, logo, and slogan.

Deliverable: USPTO trademark application filings and search report.

3. Patent

Evaluate whether your adaptive learning engine, game mechanics, or personalization algorithms are patentable.

Draft and file provisional patent applications (or advise if a utility patent is stronger).

Deliverable: Patent filings with USPTO and provisional patent certificate/serial number.

4. IP Strategy

Create an IP protection roadmap showing when and how to secure additional protections as you scale.

Provide guidance on licensing, ownership agreements, and protecting IP when working with freelancers/volunteers.

Deliverable: Written IP strategy document + contracts/templates (e.g., NDAs, work-for-hire agreements).
