A. 12 year old Immigrant Child Facing Deportation

Help an immigrant child gain legal status in the U.S. and protect them from deportation.

Posted July 22, 2024

Work & Deliverables

A. is a 12-year-old from Guatemala and is part of an indigenous Mayan tribe. Raised by his mother, aunt, and grandparents after his father abandoned him in early childhood. The Safe Passage Project pro bono attorney would help A.  apply for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) in Kings County Family Court based on the abandonment of his father and neglect by his mother, then assist A. with filing Form I-360 Petition for SIJS with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The government has indicated that it plans to initiate removal proceedings against A., but it has not yet done so. The pro bono attorney would also represent A. in Immigration Court once his removal proceedings begin.
