BraveHeart Sun Dance NonProfit Status Submission

Continuation of the Sun Dance Events for 8 tribes in the southwest USA

Posted August 20, 2024

Background & Context

The Braveheart Sun Dance was started due to a vision given to our intercessor during a family vacation to South Dakota. Since that vision we have seen 7 other Sun Dance organizations cease in their activities leaving 20-40 dancers without events to finish up their training. We are offering a place for these dancers to finish out their commitments, but the expenses are high for these families and we need to off-set the expenses via donations. We have a giving circle of people willing to donate, but we do not have a nonprofit status. We are seeking that now.

Immediate Problem

Nonprofit status.
Organizational paperwork and filing with the IRS.

Work & Deliverables

We have never submitted a 501(c ) 3 before and would like to create documents that will speed the process while not allowing the board to dictate to the event coordinators. We know we need bylaws, etc. but really have no idea where to start. We will be happy to do the heavy lifting, we just need guidance on next steps.

Project Plan

BraveHeart Sun Dance

Based on a vision by our intercessor, Eric Morris, The BraveHeart Sundance Family has been building ceremonies and vision quests around the "Common Man's Alter" and blending the Sundance Ceremonies of 4 other Families as different organizations fold across the United States. We are a new group with only 3 years of experience as the BraveHeart Sundance Family and we would like to become more structured in our approach, funding, and organization. We just got our website domain name a few weeks ago.
