M 19 year old Immigrant Child Facing Deportation

Help an immigrant child gain legal status in the U.S. and protect them from deportation.

Posted February 13, 2024

Work & Deliverables

M. is a 19-year-old from Honduras. She arrived in the U.S. in 2021 and is currently in removal proceedings. She grew up with her parents in Honduras, where her father physically and emotionally abused her from a very early age. M. fled Honduras to escape her father's violence. Her attorney will need to help her petition the U.S. government for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), which is a gateway to permanent residence in the United States. Additionally, she may be eligible to apply for Asylum. The pro bono attorney should further explore M. 's circumstances and discuss with Safe Passage mentor attorney the viability of a claim for asylum or withholding of removal.
