Legal Support for Raleigh and Greensboro NC abortion clinics

Support legal monitors and provide general support for embattled repro health care providers

Posted February 3, 2023

Background & Context

Reproductive health care clinics in Raleigh are experiencing a significant escalation in anti-abortion protests. We are launching a legal monitor program for a besieged clinic in order to have neutral, trained volunteer observers document unlawful conduct by anti-abortion protesters including trespassing, property damage, sound ordinance violations, physical assault and battery, roadway and sidewalk interference and obstruction, and more.

Immediate Problem

Improve and maintain safe access to reproductive health care for patients and clinic staff

Work & Deliverables

Monitor protest activity, maintain, edit, and review legal monitor reports, and help prepare documentation in the form of memorandums and exhibits for clinic, law enforcement, and elected officials. Provide general strategic support regarding protest activities. This project will be on-going, with time commitment being 1-5 hours a week.

Feminist Majority Foundation

The Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF), which was founded in 1987, is a cutting edge organization dedicated to women’s equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. In all spheres, FMF utilizes research and action to empower women economically, socially, and politically. Our organization believes that feminists of all genders are the majority, but this majority must be empowered. To carry out these aims, FMF engages in research and public policy development, public education programs, grassroots organizing projects, leadership training and development programs, and participates in and organizes forums on issues of women’s equality and empowerment. Our sister organization, the Feminist Majority, engages in lobbying and other direct political action, pursuing equality through legislative avenues The National Clinic Access Project leads efforts across the country to reduce anti-abortion violence, keep clinics, patients, and their companions safe at clinics, keep clinics open, and bring violent anti-abortion extremists to justice. We provide clinics with emergency security assistance, identify pro-bono legal assistance, establish volunteer legal monitor and escort programs, develop legislative solutions, and engage with law enforcement where needed. Periodically, the Project publishes the National Clinic Violence Survey, the most comprehensive longitudinal study on anti-abortion violence in the nation
