Help craft clear explanations of abortion-related bills in Pennsylvania

Educate and motivate Pennsylvanians fight for abortion rights in the state legislature.

Posted October 14, 2022

Background & Context

Though abortion is currently legal in Pennsylvania, the legislature has continually passed anti-abortion legislation over the past 8 years (each vetoed by the Governor). Since the overturning of Roe, a constitutional amendment was proposed that would declare there is no right to an abortion in Pennsylvania.

Pro-choice legislators have been pushing back - there are nearly 15 bills that would expand abortion access, and codify reproductive rights, if passed.

Immediate Problem

Bills are complex and nuanced, and it can be difficult for people who care about reproductive rights to truly understand the intricacies of legislation. We want to motivate Pennsylvanians who care about reproductive rights to actively engage with the legislative process, but first we need to make it easy to "get up to speed".

Work & Deliverables

We're crafting infographics, webpages, and videos that break down current legislation impacting abortion rights and access. Our goal is to explain the bills as clearly and simply as possible to an audience who is new to the legislative process, and the nuances of abortion.

We need help both confirming our initial understanding of each abortion-related bill currently pending in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, as well as a review of any copy/infographics that we put together to ensure they are accurate.

Project Plan

Preparation Phase

  • Intro call with team lead
  • We'll share a list of the pending legislation we want to focus on, with links to the state webiste.

Collaboration Phase

  • Review each bill and compile notes
  • Meeting with team lead to review, answer questions

Wrap Up

  • Review the final user-facing infographics or copy for accuracy
