Help Journalism Grant-giving Organization with Incorporation & 501c3

Help to pioneer a new model for funding journalism

Posted September 1, 2022

Background & Context

Investigative journalism is an engine of progress — shedding light on important issues and holding centralized authorities to account. Stories and scoops that capture public attention are necessary fuel for change.

But investigative journalism is chronically underfunded. It’s a costly, time-intensive pursuit, and the prevalent media business models aren’t equipped to support it.

We're providing funding to help journalists tell stories that otherwise wouldn't be told.

Flashlight

Flashlight is a network of giving circles supporting investigative journalists. In a Flashlight giving circle, members pool money and distribute grants to investigative journalists. Everything at Flashlight centers around community — members select grantees, follow along with their reporting, and have fun along the way. As a result, many important stories are never told. At Flashlight, we aim to help change that.
