Assist with Contracts for Mental Health Services

Adolescents and seniors will access health improving cultural experiences from provider referral

Posted January 13, 2022

Background & Context

This spring, we will launch the Art Pharmacy, a referral network for mental/behavioral health care providers to offer access to health improving cultural experiences to their patients (adolescents and older adults). One of the first arts-based social prescribing initiatives in the country, the Art Pharmacy offers no-cost access to patients struggling with anxiety, depression, self-harm and social isolation.

For more than 40 years, the field of arts & health has been well-research at universities but only recently have professional organizations begun to develop solutions to bring interventions to healthcare systems. We are on the leading edge of that work and anticipate partnerships with both payers and providers to offer arts & culture interventions patients with mental/behavioral health disorders.

Mental health issues have long been serious for adolescents and seniors but the pandemic has exacerbated the effects, and the Art Pharmacy is
working to address individual health and systems change to complement other vital mental health efforts.
