Posted July 17, 2020

Background & Context

Ms. PA is a 38-year-old transgender woman from Mexico. She is currently in removal proceedings before the Aurora, Colorado immigration court. She seeks a pro bono attorney to help advocate on her behalf in filing a humanitarian parole application. A brief description of her case is below.

Work & Deliverables

Ms. PA is a 38-year-old transgender woman from Mexico. She entered the U.S. in 2005 and has received several voluntary return orders. Ms. PA is pursuing VAWA relief as a result of a very violent relationship that ended in 2014. She is also applying for asylum, withholding of removal, and relief under the Convention against Torture (CAT). She has a fear of return based on her gender identity. Ms. PA suffers from anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), rheumatoid arthritis, and hepatitis B and C. She is at high risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing a serious illness. Ms. PA has pending charges for trespassing and possession. She seeks an attorney to represent her in filing a humanitarian parole request. She is also a class member under Fraihat v. ICE and is eligible to request a custody review based on the preliminary injunction in that case. She seeks a pro bono attorney to help advocate on her behalf.
