COVID-19 ACTION: Represent a Detained Immigrant in Requesting Bond (Fully Remote Opportunity)
Help detained immigrants who are bond eligible secure release from immigration detention.

The Immigration Justice Campaign has an urgent need for pro bono counsel to file bond motions. This is particularly compelling in light of the potential for COVID-19 to spread in detention where access to medical care is never a guarantee.
Immigration Customs & Enforcement has broad discretion to release or detain individuals, including asylum seekers. Many of these people are eligible for release on bond pending their immigration court cases.
Pro Bono attorneys can help balance the scales of justice by helping these people file a request to the Immigration Court to secure their release on bond. If an individual is released, this is a huge service – more time to fight their case, find counsel, gather evidence, and not suffer conditions of confinement while in deportation proceedings.
This fully remote volunteer opportunity involves setting up telephonic client meetings, drafting a bond motion for submission to the Immigration Court, collecting supporting evidence from your client (or their family), and arguing the bond motion via a telephonic appearance with the Immigration Court.
If you do not already have Executive Office Immigration Review (EOIR) number in order to appear before the Immigration Court, we will discuss alternatives to usual requirement of in-person court registration.
Preparation Phase

Collaboration Phase
- Once placed with a case, you will follow a less than 6 weeks timeline to file your motion.
Wrap Up
- You are not engaged for representation beyond filing for bond.
